Mosaic Bazaar Launch
On 26th Nov 2016, Mosaic Bazaar was officially launched. It was a great day with a large number of mosaic artists from South Australia attending the launch, which occurred at Jane Silk Mosaic Studio in Chandlers Hill. Artists had then the opportunity to look at Smalti and admire the vibrant colours and were able to buy some. There was a mad rush at some point and especially the Aluminium Nippers were extremely popular. Check out the video below, it will give you an impression of the day. https://youtu.be/KMKGtgf9XmM
Substrate
Using a lightweight tile backer board for your mosaic will provide you with a waterproof option for indoors and outdoors. Please make sure to seal the edges if it is being used outdoors. The boards come in different sizes and thickness, if your mosaic is larger , it will be better to use a 2cm board, so it can hold the weight of the glass. The boards can be easily framed, as you would frame a normal picture. Hint: Frame the board first, so you know exactly how far to the edges you can glue the Smalti. .
How to cut Smalti
To cut Smalti you can use the lightweight Aluminium Nipper which is especially handy for people with fatigue in their wrists. Artists often struggle to get straight cuts with nippers, whether it is Smalti or sheet glass and the Aluminium Nipper will provide you with pretty straight cuts. They also cut stained glass really well.
